The books also allow students to imagine and discuss possible future innovations. Each book contains a timeline, visually showing the changing nature of items around us over the last 150 years.

The set uses a variety of text types, including explanations, procedures and discussions as well as historical and modern-day photography, diagrams, timelines, indexes, tables and glossaries.
